Dr. Z's Skin Care News - The Total Picture -
Winter 2003
|
In
the colder, drier weather the skin reacts by losing moisture. The worst
culprit for winter dry skin is indoor heating. To counteract the effects
of indoor air, try using a humidifier and drink plenty of water. Bathe or
shower with mild soaps. Pat the skin dry and apply a body lotion, such as
the Skin Replenish
Lotion. Always remember to protect your skin when outside. To
protect your hands, nails and cuticles wear gloves and apply a moisturizer
for very dry skin, such as the
Body Revive Lotion
with lactic acid. And remember your face may need a heavier moisturizer,
such as the
Maximum Facial Moisturizer to accommodate the changing drier
weather.
Use
the Skin Prep Make-up
Remover to remove all make-up especially eye make-up.
Take special measures to treat your skin at night by
cleansing, toning and moisturizing, especially around the eye, by using an
eye cream, such as the AHA Revive Eye Cream.
The beauty sleep theory does work. Get plenty of sleep if
possible. Sleeping on your back is best, side or stomach sleeping can iron
in wrinkles on the face. Cotton sheets are best they allow the skin to
breathe and are easily laundered.
Try to avoid liquid intake at least 4 hours before bedtime
to keep "puffiness" under the eyes to a minimum. Sleeping with your head
slightly elevated also helps.

The skin ages along with everything else, throw in years
of environmental and sun damaging effects and now it’s time to do
something about fighting back. As we age, the top layer (epidermis) of the
skin does not renew itself as quickly as when we were younger. It takes
longer to shed these dead skin cells and replace them with new ones. There
are products such as the
AHA Rejuvenating
Cream 8 which can speed up this skin renewal process. Vitamin A
which is in the
Advantage "A" cream is an essential element because it normalizes
and controls the growth and structure of this top layer (epidermis) of
skin. Thereby providing the following results: reduction in fine lines,
enhanced skin elasticity, and an evened skin tone. Topical vitamin C such
as the Vital "C"
Serum (10%) or the
Super "C" Serum
(25% concentration- highest available) have many anti-aging mechanisms.
Vitamin C is a free-radical scavenger, it helps in the stimulation of
existing collagen production and it offers photoprotection.
